DBS Virtual Conference 2024

15 – 17 October

Making recruitment and employment safer

The DBS helps employers make safer recruitment and employment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. DBS also maintains the adults’ and children’s Barred Lists and makes considered decisions as to whether an individual should be included on one or both of these lists and barred from engaging in regulated activity.

As an organisation that puts safeguarding at the heart of everything it does, we understand how important safeguarding is in the workplace and community.  The Conference brings together experts, practitioners and leads from safeguarding and HR to share their experiences, contribute to discussions and learn from best practice.

This year, conference is taking place over three days, each day with a separate theme:

  • Tuesday 15 October: Technology, innovation, and the future of safeguarding
  • Wednesday 16 October: The importance of information sharing in safeguarding.
  • Thursday 17 October: Rehabilitation of Offenders – balancing safeguarding with individuals rights to rehabilitation.

There will be opportunities to hear from the Chairman and Chief Executive of DBS as well as other exciting keynote speakers and to listen to panel discussions – please keep an eye on this page for details.

You also will be able to express an interest to take part in one of our Round Table sessions and we have lots of interesting and varied workshops for delegates to choose from too, for example:

  • Harmful behaviour outside of the workplace – should this be referred to DBS? Explore how harmful behaviour displayed outside work/voluntary settings may impact upon safeguarding and could lead to someone being included in a barred list and hear about other types of harm that may be less well known but should still be considered for referral to DBS.
  • Enhanced DBS Checks – Find out more about the Enhanced process, why  some checks may take longer than others to issue and what to do if you do experience delays in the process.
  • Assessing and Managing Risk. Join representatives from the DBS and NSPCC who will help you think about risk factors when recruiting and how they impact on an individual’s suitability to carry out a role. This workshop will recognise the importance of safer recruitment, background checking best practice and the relevance of disclosed information.

Please do signup and keep checking back for more that will be added.
